The Sycuan Fire Department and the Bureau of Indian Affairs BIA completed their 2008 BIA-Sycuan Wildland Firefighter Academy #11 "Two-Bit Thrashers" on the Sycuan Kumeyaay Indian Reservation in El Cajon, east San Diego County, Southern CA.
This professional 22-minute fire-fighting academy photojournalistic-style documentary movie goes deep into the wildland fire academy's militaristic training methods and Marine Corps discipline philosophy.
Former Marine Corps DI (professional drill instructors) take command of 36 individual civilians, weed out the toughest 24, and transform them into a single working team of gung-ho, can-do wildland fire fighters.
From check-in to graduation, the three-week academy employs tough physical and mental challenges, and uses a steep 800-foot San Diego mountain "MF Mountain" as a metaphor to overcome and conquer personal preconceived notions of mental and physical limits through teamwork and evolved close group comradery.
