SUBJECT: Advance Firefighter Training S-131 (Incident Commander ICT5)

On Friday February 22, 2008 @ 0800 hrs the Sycuan Fire Department Safety / Training Division in conjunction with South Western College will be presenting training on Advance Firefighter / Squad Boss (FFT1) and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5). This is an NWCG Course designed to support the training requirements of the Wildland and Prescribed Fire Qualification Guide, PMS 310-1 and is also a requirement for Sycuan Fire Department Position Standards and Pay Scales.

THE COURSE LESSONS:

This course is designed to be interactive in nature. It contains several exercises designed to facilitate group and class discussion. Students will be required to demonstrate the ability to use fireline reference tools to facilitate the communication and decision-making processes: describe how to incorporate and maintain open lines of communication with appropriate personnel: demonstrate the ability to apply Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for the Incident Response Pocket Guide (IRPG); and demonstrate the ability to apply information found in the Fireline Handbook.

The course will consist of one day of classroom (8hrs) with multiple fire related classroom and field exercises. Position Task Books (PTB) will be issue to all participants for initiation by their respective Fire Department or Agency Training Officer (TO’s). The Training Cadre has the latitude to rearrange the Agenda to accommodate weather changes or travel times to the field exercise site while ensuring all course objectives are met.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is directed at individuals that have shown an interest, demonstrated the necessary skills, and met all the prerequisites, to include; established minimum training, skills and knowledge, experience and physical fitness requirement for the position of Squad Boss and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5)

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Tony has been a qualified Division Supervisor since 1983, a qualified Operations Section Chief since 1989 and a qualified Air Tactical Group Supervisor since 1993. He served as the team Air Tactical Group Supervisor on California Interagency Incident Management Team 3 for six years beginning in 1998.

Tony has served as cadre leader and instructor for wildland fire and leadership courses since 1979, instructing at the local, regional and national level.

Since his retirement, Tony has been instructing wildland fire and leadership courses for a variety of municipal and county fire agencies, the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs and CAL FIRE. For the last two fire seasons he has staffed the US Forest Service, Region 5 Firewatch Cobra based at Fox Tanker Base in Lancaster, Ca as the primary Air Tactical Group Supervisor and Module Leader

PREREQUISITES:

S-110, S-130, S-190, I-100, Incident Command System I-200, IS-700 NIMS Awareness.

NOMINATION FORM:

All applicants are required by NWCG to complete the NWCG application and submit it to Chief Ruiz Sr. no later than February 20, 2008 @ 1600 hrs. Attached you will find a nomination form. NWCG applications can be found on the NWCG and NIFC web sites.

Course will be held at the Sycuan Fire Department Training Center Multi-Purpose Room. February 22, 2008 from 0800 till 1700 hrs.

COURSE TUITION:

The tuition for this course is $50.00.  The cost for other courses may vary depending on the price of equipment, material, facilities, and instructors.
