FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SYCUAN donates money and fire fighting support for fifth year to the City of San Diego.
The Golden Eagles Hotshots and Flycrews comprise an elite group of specially-trained firefighters.
The Sycuan Flycrew staffs Copter 1 throughout the San Diego County fire season and responds to brush fires and grass fires in the city of San Diego and surrounding region.
The Golden Eagles Hotshots are available to help fight wildfires in San Diego unless they are committed to fighting fires elsewhere in the nation.
Through a Cooperative Partnership Agreement with the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the Sycuan Fire Department will dispatch its 20-member hotshot crew to the city of San Diego upon request -- at no cost to the city.
This year 2007 marks the fifth year the Sycuan band has donated the Sycuan Fire Department's wildland and flycrew personnel and services under this program.
Starting today, through November, a dozen members of the Sycuan Flycrew will be at the Fire-Rescue Department helicopter base at Montgomery Field Airport and ready to respond to fires.
Since 2003, the Sycuan Flycrews have responded on Copter 1 to more than 400 fires in the greater San Diego region.
San Diego Fire Chief Jarman said if the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department had to budget for these enhanced services being supplied by the Sycuan Hotshots, the cost would be more than $400,000 annually.

San Diego City Council Member Brian Maienschien provided opening remarks to the press cameras and guests on behalf of San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders office.

San Diego Fire Chief Tracy Jarman talks about what a national resource the Golden Eagles Hotshots are to San Diego and the nation and thanks the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation for renewing their financial commitment to this program, what it means to the Fire-Rescue Department and the safety of the citizens of San Diego.

Sycuan Fire Chief Hank Murphy, Kumeyaay Indian, addressed the visitors and crowd making Sycuan's donation official.
