The Fort Apache IHC became the first Native American IHC in the United State in 1982.
Type 2 Crews from Fort Apache had been fighting fires on and off the reservation for years.
To create the Fort Apache Interagency Hotshots Crew (IHC), crew members were handpicked from the experienced Type 2 Crews based on their positive, hard-working attitudes, work ethic, and abilities.
