Flycrew Assignments, Job Listings information.

The Sycuan Fire Department Flycrew 1 staffed the CWN firefighting team as it repositioned to Sycuan heli-base, Sycuan Indian Reservation, as part of predicted Santa Ana fire support in San Diego County firefighting, November 2007, and remained staffed and on call for the following 10 days.

SYCUAN GOLDEN EAGLES FLYCREW HISTORY:
The Golden Eagles Interagency Hotshot (IHC) / Flycrew are a diverse group of professional firefighters representing many Native American nations, including the Paiute, Karuk, Tule River, Kumeyaay, Lakota, Pima, Zapoteca, Taino/Siboney as well as, non-Native Hispanic, Filipino, Black and Anglo representation. When not on a fire assignment, these crews perform hazardous fuel reduction, fuel break, TSI (Timber Standing Improvement), trails and WUI (Wildland Urban Interface) duties. These projects are conducted on Indian reservations, national forest land and City or County using mechanical and prescribed burning techniques.
On August 11, 2003, the Golden Eagles Hotshots was formally recognized, funded, supported and granted Type I status as a Hotshot Crew IHC (Trainee). On May 10, 2004, the Golden Eagles Hotshots transferred from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) to the Sycuan Tribal Government under a five-year contract. The move was good for all organizations, giving the Tribal Government more leverage over all aspects of crew management, including hiring, training, outside agency cooperation and special projects.
On June 29, 2005, the Golden Eagles Hotshots received its certification as an Interagency Hotshot Crew. This intense certification process consisted of a three-day crew evaluation, audit of personnel training records and qualifications, Incident Qualifications and Certification System (IQCS), and scenarios related to wildland firefighting, fire shelter deployment, helicopter support and landing, medical, crew boss, squad boss, and lead firefighters ability to assume a leadership role in the event a supervisor becomes incapacitated. Today the Golden Eagles Hotshots and Flycrew are recognized and respected by all other City, County, State and Federal Firefighting Entities. On May 2006 the Air & Wildland Division resources Schedule “B” started to be dispatch by the Cleveland National Forest. In an effort to contribute into the National Dispatch System and Centers the Sycuan Fire Department hired and continues to paid for a full time Dispatcher that represents the interest of the Sycuan Fire Department and BIA.
On July 1, 2003, the Sycuan Fire Department and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, with support from the Bureau of Indian Affairs BIA, entered into a partnership with the San Diego City Fire and Rescue Department Air Operations Program to provide a 10-person Flycrew.
Today this partnership between Sycuan Fire Department, Sycuan Tribal Government, BIA and San Diego City Fire and Rescue Air Operations Division continues to flourish. This year the Bureau of Indian Affairs recognize and acknowledge that the Sycuan Fire Department Flycrew program was a success and a meeting was set with Chief Murphy, Division Chief Ruiz Sr. Captain Violante, Adam Day and Troy Graves representing the interest of the Tribe and representatives from the BIA NIFC office; Lyle Carlyle Director of Fire Operations and Joel Kirley of Boise Idaho, Mike Amacarilla and Dave Underwood of Albuquerque New Mexico Branch of NIFC and Regional Fire Management Officer Ron Recker of the BIA Pacific Region out of Sacramento met on May 24, 2007, at Singing Hills Resort and Country Club at Sycuan to go over policies, procedures and contractual agreement for the assistance in staffing light helicopters (Type III) ships throughout the United States on BIA exclusive use helicopter programs. An agreement was made and an understanding was reach in regards to Sycuan Fire Department Air & Wildland Division vision of having an exclusive use Medium Type II helicopter manage and operated by Sycuan Flycrew personnel in the near future.
On June 8, 2007 Sycuan Fire Department Air & Wildland Division started assisting with the staffing of a Euro-Copter A Start B-3 light helicopter at Ute Mountain, Ute Mountain BIA Agency in Towaoc, Colorado with a squad of five (5) person Flycrew. The second squad is schedule for assignment on June 22, 2007 at Fort Washake, Washington for their tour of duty, both of these squad will be committed for a total of thirty (30) day assignment before been replaced. These squad will be on a rotation with the rest of the Flycrew assigned to San Diego Fire & Rescue Air Operations Program assigned to Montgomery Field, participating throughout the fire season, this is a great opportunity for the Sycuan Golden Eagles Flycrew to receive more training within the National system, as well as helping other BIA / Tribal Helicopter programs.
On Monday June 18, 2007, both crews became available for local and national assignments. A special event by Mayor Sanders of San Diego City, Chief Tracy Jarming and Deputy Chief Brian Fennessy of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department took place at Rancho Mission Canyon Park at around 1030 hours.
